Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance (TA) is a military benefit for individuals who are still currently serving. Each branch of the service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process and restrictions. Please reach out to your branch specific Education Service Officer or Career Counselor at your unit/base/etc. to determine your eligibility and what steps you need to take if you wish to seek our this benefit. Additionally, once you have determined your eligibility, reached our to your Education Service Officer, please feel free to reach out to Kimberly Heslin ( kheslin@purdue.edu), Military Clerk at Purdue University who serves as the point of contact for Tuition Assistance.

Where to start:

  1. Seek approval from Branch/Unit/Base Education Service Office (ESO) or counselor within Military Services prior to enrolling to determine eligibility and information about branch-specific process to seek Tuition Assistance.
  2. Complete appropriate application per military branch/education office instructions.
    • For Army, Army Reserves and Army National Guard applications, visit the ArmyIgnitED
    • For Air National Guard applications, visit the AI Portal.
    • For Navy and Marines, visit the Navy College Program.
    • For all others, please communicate with the education office within your branch of service.
  3. When your Military TA is approved, please communicate with Purdue's Office of the Bursar to turn in your Military TA-Tuition Voucher. Anticipated Military Credits will be applied to your student account to hold you harmless from any payment or late fee activity.
    • Invoices will be sent to the Military Sponsor after the last refund period (approximately six weeks after the first day of class) and will be due within 30 days. A reminder will be sent to Military TA sponsors who have invoices with a balance due after 60 days. If payment is not made within 75 days, the sponsor’s credit will be removed from the student account, a hold will be placed on the student’s record, and it will become the responsibility of the student to pay. In order to resolve any issues, both the student and the sponsor will be notified prior to removal of the tuition credit.
  4. If you are eligible for Tuition Assistance Top Up, please contact the Veterans Success Center.

Grades and Tuition Assistance

In order to continue to receive your Tuition Assistance with Purdue University, the following grade point averages must be maintained:

  • Undergraduate students: must maintain a GPA of 2.0. Any grade below a C, FTA will be recouped
  • Graduate students: must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Any grade below a B, FTA will be recouped

Please note: students utilizing Tuition Assistance will no longer be able to upload courses manually. Please submit your course schedule to a School Certifying Official to assist you with this.
